Distributing High Definition Multi-Room Audio & Video in the Home

Home Theater Receiver

The arrival of high definition audio and video has produced new challenges for the practice installer. Original methods of multiroom audio and video distribution relied on analogue technologies - distributing Component video along with audio to manifold rooms and this allowed a very good signal and huge flexibility. With the arrival of Hdmi, driven generally by copyright owners, this has become more challenging. Now devices transfer digital keys designed to ensure that article ends up on displays, not on recorders. This has caused us in the practice installation shop a bit of a headache, overnight Sky dropped component connections from their Hd receivers and clients still unbelievable to distribute it and blue ray players colse to their homes.

The good news is some systems have now been formed to allow this to happen. Crestron have just released their digital media clarification which takes any number of analogue and digital inputs and distributes it as high definition to up to 16 rooms. Thorough implementations of Hdmi allow two 'hops' so your Dvd player can, just, go from your home cinema receiver to your Lcd or Plasma display. In the world of practice installation we may need that Dvd player to go to manifold rooms in a home at the same time and over long distances. This distribution must be seamless to the home owner and not suffer any loss of quality. The Crestron law therefore regenerates the key at each point ensuring it is ready and waiting when your devices need it - rescue the annoying wait as devices handshake which has become Thorough practice in the Hdmi world. Crestron have literally taken the issue of Hdmi distribution and gone a level beyond - a central matrix accepts all your inputs (digital and analogue) and distributes the video and audio over Cat5e/6 or fibre to room receivers. These receivers allow Hd Video and up to 7.1 surround sound to be presented and even allow Usb to be sent back to the central hub area - great for games consoles or Pc control! As if that isn't sufficient the room controllers also consist of Rs232 ports for controlling display devices and closed contacts for controlling plasma lifts and other devices.
