All About Home Theatre Speakers

Home Theater Receiver

A home theater is a composition of two types of media, video and audio. On the video side a home theater usually includes a big screen or a high definition Tv set and a Dvd or high definition Dvd player. On the audio side, this principles has a extra receiver that has the quality to decode formats like Dolby Digital, and Thx, and extra speakers each positioned carefully.

Home Theater Receiver

If the home theater should have the quality to recreate the magic of movie theater, several speakers are required. In a normal home audio set up we have one receiver and two speakers. But in home theater we shall have more speakers.

The most base configuration for the best home theater is the 5.1 setup with right front channel, left front channel, a center channel, one channel that covers the left surround speakers and the one for left front channel. There is other low frequency channel that supports a sub woofer.

The front left channel speaker is extremely leading and works with stereo. Both front left and right channels are sold in pairs and are quite powerful. The sound that comes from these two speakers is even because of the same dynamic range. Like the front left channel, the right channel speaker is able to cope a large range of signals.

The center channel speaker is usually located whether underneath or above the television. It consists of one single speaker whose function includes handling mid range sound, and keeping the dialog in front. It is usually rectangular in shape.

The surround sound channel speakers are a set of two speakers situated behind the viewer or attached to brackets on the wall. The purpose of this speaker is to give the viewers a feel of the environment of the video.

The sub woofers can be located anywhere in the room. A sub woofer can add to the enjoyment more by creating very low frequencies since it plays a major part in explosions, car motor sound, etc.

Now there are four types of home theater speaker systems. Home theater box set is the most base type. It usually includes 5 speakers and a detach sub woofer. This kind of speakers are extremely easy to set up. They are configured similar to each other to make sure that the audio is balanced and clear.

The second type of home theater satellite speakers are generally small sized speakers that are ensured to furnish literal, sound. These kinds of speakers are exquisite for small rooms. Just like the home theater box they come mostly with Dvd players.

Customized home theater speaker is very beloved because of the high-end components. These kinds of speakers are quite expensive and you will have to spend thousands for one private speaker.

Home theater speaker principles for computers is one of the emerging areas that is gaining popularity because of the interest in watching movies or downloading videos on computers. The price of these speakers is quite affordable.

Home Theater Receiver

With the coming of flat screen Tvs and surround sound systems, home theaters have come to be more popular recreating a movie theater like contact within one's home. In fact movie aficionados can now get an entertainment room built with sound proof material and darkened interiors providing the perfect setting to savor the theater experience.

The wonder of surround sound

Surround sound systems are set up using a series of speakers placed at strategic locations colse to the viewer to create a realistic ambiance. The surround sound principles works by increasing the spatial sense, and best sound directionality with height effects to contribute 3D sound environment.

The surround sound systems are measured in terms of channels like 5.1, 7.1 and 9.1. Each channel delivers a different sound track via the speaker simultaneously. For example, in a 5.1 channel system, each of the 5 speakers will deliver a different sound along with a subwoofer speaker (.1) which produces bass sounds of lower frequency.

Choosing the speakers

Home theaters systems regularly come with 5 to 9 speakers. Pick the amount of speakers inspecting the size of the room, sound succeed requirements and of course the cost. Before buying a set of speakers, listen to the actual sound produced preferably by playing soundtracks that you are well familiar with. Also remember to buy speakers of the same brand for best compatibility and sound quality.

In a 5 set speaker system, the left and right front speakers as well as the side ones need to be selfsame to each other. The front speakers are larger in size as they contribute more audibility with regards to dialogues spoken and song lyrics while the side speakers are smaller as they contribute the subtler sound effects.

The speaker premise process

Remember to place the speakers in harmony with the seating arrangement as even a small adjustment in any one will cause a primary change in the perceived sound.

1. Viewing distance: The viewer should be sitting ideally at a length of 6-8 ft from the screen.

2. Front speakers: The left and right front speakers are to be placed equidistant at about 2-3 feet from the screen with the center speaker placed below or above the screen.

3. Side speakers: The side speakers are placed just behind the viewer at an inward angle slightly above the ear level for best results.

4. Subwoofer speaker: The subwoofer speaker can be placed in any place as the human ear cannot locate the source of low bass frequency sounds.

5. Speaker placement: The speakers can be placed on props on the floor or mounted on the walls.

6. Connecting wires: The connecting wires can be concealed in wire moldings or run straight through the walls for a neat look.

7. Sound adjustment: succeed the directions given in the manual. One may also use a microphone to test the sound and locate the best viewing spot in the room.

8. Sound bars: If space is a constraint, you may go for a sound bar which consists of any speakers enclosed in a singular cabinet. The cabinet can be admittedly integrated in your home decor either on the walls or placed on racks.

Choosing the receiver

Now we come to the Avr (audio-video receiver) the core element of the home theater system. An Avr or receiver as it is commonly known comprises of an amplifier which serves to control and regulate the audio and video components including the speakers.

With respect to power look for an Avr power rating in the range of 100W x 5 or 100W x 7. Also make sure the receiver has the input points to join together to components like Dvd and Cd players, Pcs, game consoles, transportable devices, cameras, Internet and so on. It is recommended to Pick an Avr with Hdmi inputs which enables best compatibility with new age devices like Blu-ray disc players.

Home theater in a box

A "home theater in a box" (Htib) is often the best way to Pick speakers and other home theater components excluding the display screen. The pack will comprise a receiver, disc player, five speakers and connecting cables. The components are easy to install and suitable for a room with small dimensions.

Eliminating that Terrible Hum From Your Home Theater Speakers

Home Theater Receiver

You've all heard it, that dreaded 60Hz hum through the speakers of a home theater or house audio system. Hopefully you heard it at a friend's house and not your own. It can drive you fully nuts. You may have even tried, unsuccessfully, to fix the dinky noise problem. That can make you even more crazy. What causes that horrendous noise through your speakers?

Home Theater Receiver

More often than not humming through your speakers is caused by a grounding problem. There are three main ground problems that cause problems in an audio / video system. These are ground loops, improper grounding and lack of a ground altogether. The other inherent culprits that can cause noise are bad cables, a faulty piece of tool or electrical noise from a lighting dimmer or galvanic motor. There are steps you can take to troubleshoot the noise and eliminate it from you theater.

The first step is find out where it is coming from. Disconnect your source and display tool from your receiver or surround sound processor. If the noise stops, join together them back to the receiver or processor on at a time until the noise returns. When the hum comes back, you found where the noise is entering your system. Note that if you are connecting remote equipment, such as running the signal from your theater room Dvd player to the Tv in the bedroom, your chances to pick up noise growth dramatically. With such long runs, noise can be induced into the long cable runs from adjacent electrical wiring. It is also easy to originate a ground loop, because the tool is plugged into two different, widely separated outlets, on dissimilar electrical circuits.

If the noise is caused by a cable box, the noise is likely caused by the cable Tv ground. To test this theory, disconnect the incoming cable Tv feed to the rear of the cable box or Tv while they are still connected to the rest of the system. If the noise is eliminated by disconnecting the Tv cable, the problem is the cable Tv ground. You can electrically decouple the cable Tv feed from your theory with a ground breaking transformer. These are ready from many sources. Be advised that many newer, digital cable Tv systems require any gismo in the signal chain to pass a full 1,000 Mhz. Some of the older ground break transformers will not do this. Be sure to check the specifications of whatever gismo you are purchasing to verify it will pass the digital cable Tv signal.

If the noise is from your projector, Tv, or monitor, it is most likely caused because the video display gismo is plugged into a dissimilar outlet than the other a/v equipment. It could be on a dissimilar circuit as well. These circuits may have two dissimilar ground potentials. That is, the resistance to ground is dissimilar on each circuit. A variation in resistance to ground from one ground point to another can cause the dreaded ground loop. If you get a ground loop, current flows in the middle of the two components. If the current flows through the components internal audio signal ground, you will get a hum.

You can use an isolation transformer, similar to the type used for cable Tv ground problems, to eliminate the electrical association from one component to the other. These transformers are inserted in line with the audio signal association in the middle of the two components. If there is no audio association in the middle of the components, the problem may be current flowing through the video portion. In this case, a video isolation transformer should be used to eliminate the ground loop.

Sometimes power conditioners will stop noise problems by placing tool on different, electrically isolated outlets. This is done using isolation transformers. Sometimes this is ineffective however, due to the differences in internal construction of dissimilar power conditioning equipment. Some protection regulations, such as Ul 1950, specify that an isolation transformer is only allowed to cut off the hot and neutral wires; the grounding wire must be passed right through. If this is the case, the ground loop problem may still exist because many transportation circuits are connected to the grounding conductor and not the neutral. In this case, the isolation transformer, or any power conditioner or Ups with an isolation transformer will have indeed no affect on the grounding problem.

The noise may be generated externally, from a dimmer or refrigerator compressor for example, and coming in through the main power input on the audio video equipment. In this case, a high ability power conditioner may be efficient in reducing or eliminating the noise problem. You may also find that one of the signal interconnecting cables in your theory is faulty. This can also cause noise problems. Check for this by swapping the cables with one that you know to be good.

You can solve most noise problems in your home theater or multi room audio/video theory by taking the systematic, step-by-step approach. Work your way up the signal chain, eliminating each piece of tool as you go. If you have nothing connected to your speakers except the speaker wiring, and they still hum, the problem is noise induced into the speaker wiring from adjacent power cables. Other than that case, most problems are caused by ground problems, which you can find, and solve, if you take it one step at a time.

How to Place Home Theater Speakers

Home Theater Receiver

You have your television and home theater receiver; you just bought your new speakers and subwoofer and are ready to test things out. It's time to break out the measuring tape because precision is vital to achieving the full inherent of your home theater system. For this article, we are going to focus on a 5.1 surround sound system. The term "5.1" refers to the number of speakers and subwoofers in the theory respectively. So for a 5.1 surround sound system, there are five speakers (the town channel, the two front speakers, and the two rear speakers) and one subwoofer.

Home Theater Receiver

When placing your home theater speakers, try to use the same number of speaker wire for each type of speaker. For example, use the same length of wire for each of the front speakers. This will allow the signal to reach each speaker in about the same instant. I say "about" because there are variations in the wire which could cause the signal to reach one speaker slightly (fractions of a fraction of a second) before the other. By development the two lengths equal, you ensure that this delay remains tiny and unnoticeable.

Center Channel

The town channel should all the time be located whether immediately above or immediately below the viewing screen. Make sure the speaker is pointed directly at the audience.

Front Speakers

The two front speakers should be the same length from the audience as the town channel. Doing this will ensure that the sound will voyage from each speaker to the audience in the same number of time and sell out the chances of there being a noticeable delay in the middle of what takes place on screen to when you hear it. Each of the front speakers should also be positioned an equal length from the Tv on whether side. This length is dependant on your exact tastes; just make sure that the distances are both equal.

Rear Speakers

The rear speakers should be mounted on the walls on whether side of the audience. Their purpose is to furnish a sense of atmosphere, not furnish the main sound for your home theater system. Therefore, they should not be pointed directly at the audience's ears or you risk over powering the town channel and the two front speakers. Again, length is important. Try to have the rear speakers the same length from the Tv in order to use the same number of speaker wire and if inherent have them located equidistance from the audience.

Subwoofer

Bass tones by their nature are more difficult to localize than the midrange and high notes of the other five speakers. This will give you more free time as to where to place the subwoofer. However, the location surrounding the subwoofer can greatly work on the bass tones you hear. Placing the subwoofer in a angle or under a table will generate a deeper resonating tone as the sound waves reflect off of the surfaces. The placement of the subwoofer is up to you, depending on the type of bass you want. Experiment with separate locations and find the one that best suits your taste.

Realizing the full inherent of your home theater speakers is not a difficult task. By following these guidelines, you will be ready to enjoy your home theater the way it was meant to be heard.

How to Setup Your Audio equipment Speakers to Get Your Money's Worth From Your Home Audio equipment

Home Theater Receiver

The allowable placement and setup of your audio equipment speakers and home audio equipment is important. We all enjoy the sounds of the movie theater at home. When we can literally feel the thumping in our chest from low frequency sounds, or hear each one of a million pieces of glass hit the ground, it adds to our entertainment. If you setup and place your audio system and speakers improperly, you are not going to be able to enjoy all the features of the system you purchased.

Home Theater Receiver

If you are like most people, you purchased an audio equipment system with as many features as you could get. These features are important for your enjoyment of your system, but do not guarantee great sound. Rather, you should take some time to understand some concepts of sound acoustics to get the most from your equipment.

There are many distinct ways to setup up an audio system in a room. There is not just one way that is best. That is because each room where a system is located has its own private sound quality. The same audio system located in two distinct locations will sound differently.

You should put some time and idea into planning the bodily arrangement of the furniture and audio equipment in your room. You should allow yourself the luxury of exploring any distinct options. You will be amazed at the differences in the sound of your audio system. What you are trying to achieve is the best trade-off in the middle of the audio pregnancy in the room with the placement of your furniture.

You will want to test your speaker and furniture placement straight through use. Keep your options open in this phase. Your best results will come from trying every mixture of placements of your speakers and furniture. Each mixture will probably have a distinct effect on the whole sound you hear from your system. Do not rush this part of the test. You want to have the best potential setup for your unique situation.

The ultimate goal for the placement of your home audio equipment is to achieve a surround, or cocoon, of sound. There should be a presence of sound, without unplanned directional sounds. Let the system originate the isolated directional sound when it enhances the movie or Tv show. You want your system to reproduce the natural way we hear sounds.

Avoid the tendency to use your speakers as another piece of furniture, rather than as audio equipment with a purpose. You purchased the speakers to augment the entertainment value of your Tv, Cd, and Dvd players, not to be the base of a lamp. And remember that everything in your room is part of the audio system, since it all affects the sound you hear. You want to maintain and enhance that sound, rather than dampen it.

The height of the audio equipment speakers in the room is crucial to the sound you hear. You want the cone of sound to be at the same level as the listener. Make sure that the sound travels directly to the listener rather than be first reflected off other surfaces.

You should take care to place stereo speakers as equal length from the listener as possible. Believe it or not, research has shown that even a few feet dissimilarity in the middle of the former sound and reflected sound can confuse our brain to the point that it dulls the listening sense. And if the sound is too dull, you are not receiving the benefits that your home audio equipment is designed to deliver.

Tower Speakers Or Surround Speakers?

Home Theater Receiver

Aside from the amazingly precise reproductions of the sound bars that are now inundating the surround sound speaker systems, tower speakers will give you a more realistic stereo and front channel sound reproduction than those speakers supplied with the average home-theater-in-a-box (Htib).

Home Theater Receiver

A decent set of tower, or floor standing speakers, meaning a pair of speakers that can be perfectly distinguished for use as both stereo sound speakers for listening to music, as well as front surround sound speakers for home entertainment uses, will average in the ,000 Us per speaker price range. They will compliment a good Dolby surround receiver much better than the lower grade speakers included with Htibs, production the audiophile much happier.

One downside for these speakers is, of course, that they are not wall mountable, and take up space on the floor in your entertainment room. They are not as directional as bookshelf, or small surround speakers, meaning that they do not have to be pointed directly at your honey spot, and cover more of an area with a truer reproduction of the medium being played.

When you sit in your entertainment room, sit in the position that you most commonly watch television and movies, and place the speakers equally distant from the receiver, and point them towards where you sit. With the receiver set at the volume you usually listen to it at, move the speakers until they are either exquisite sounding with the other surround speakers, or are at the ends of the room.

If you find yourself setting up tower speakers, and have them set at the furthest possible distance from the receiver and they are still overpowering the town and surround speakers, you will have to change the settings for the front left and front right surround speakers on the receiver, in setup mode. You can find the setup mode when the receiver is set on the speaker channel choice that you use your surround speakers with (usually an A, B or C speaker choice button).

Tower speakers are not meant for Htibs, but when you replace your receiver with a better one, or if you already have a component system, then tower speakers are meant to be used with the better receivers. They are designed to reproduce the highs and lows of stereo music, much more so than any bookshelf speakers.

And, if you find that tower speakers are not for you, you can all the time take them back, as long as it is within the guarantee time duration as dictated by the store or on-line enterprise you purchased them from. Expect much better customer aid if these speakers were purchased from a store, as opposed to an on-line business, or even through a store's web services.

Wireless Home Theater Speakers

Home Theater Receiver

Installing a home theater system is synonymous with navigating a massive tangled mess of wires. This is the part of the installation which is zero fun. Playing with settings is a blast, but running those wires is a pain.

Home Theater Receiver

Now there is a newer member to the home theater house which cuts down on some of this. Wireless home theater speakers. Before I continue I need to let you know that there are no all wireless systems currently available. They are only meant for the rear speakers.

These are not easily meant to replace all of those wires. However, they are meant to replace the wires that run from the back of the receiver to the back speakers of your system. This in turn not only removes the need to run 2 more wires, but also eliminates the drilling of holes and a lovely trip to the attic.

Having them wireless gives them more of a plug and play ability. At least for the back speakers. The technology is not exactly new, but it is easily getting better. The first models of wireless home theater speakers got less than rave reviews. However, the most new models sound perfectly clear.

Not only is the technology getting better, but they are getting more affordable too. Thus you should expect to see more and more in homes in the advent years.

Home Theater Speakers - More About Subwoofers

Home Theater Receiver

We all know what bass can do to a movie soundtrack. It can create drama, danger, even a feeling of vigor depending on the visuals that go along with it. Bass is one of the most prominent elements of any audio format because it provides equilibrium and variation to the broad score of a movie, television show, even commercial. Quality bass in a sound law is impressive while not being overpowering.

Home Theater Receiver

In a 5.1 surround sound system, one of the most tasteless for home theater installations, the '.1' is the bass. The speaker for the bass sounds on a soundtrack is called a subwoofer. Lower frequency sound waves use a larger diaphragm to move the whole of air it takes to make these sounds. While smaller speakers can furnish these lower frequency waves, they typically cannot furnish the kind of Quality that one would expect from a Quality theater. Smaller speakers can often sound tinny when trying to furnish these lower sounds. Large home theatre speaker towers are capable of handling this part of the soundtrack though it may need the discount of sound Quality from the mid and high range frequency speakers.

Choosing a good sound law with a Quality bass speaker is not impossible, even for habitancy who do not have a lot of experience. First, start with the subwoofer. Homeowners will need to consider either they need a passive sub or an active woofer. A passive subwoofer does not need a detach power supply. Rather it uses power from the same amp that is driving the other home theatre speakers. Volume from the amplifier can normally be controlled, there is less control broad with a passive sub. An active sub has a detach power supply. This means that the signal received from the amplifier/receiver is enhanced by the subwoofer itself, without taking any of the power from the other speakers.

Once you have your home theater subwoofer and other speakers picked out, lay them out to get the best sound from each. Bass sound is omni-directional, meaning that it goes out from the speaker in all direction. To rule where to place the subwoofer, put it in the same position that you will be sitting in, either it is on the couch facing the television screen or in a home theater chair. Turn on a favorite film then move nearby your room and listen. Find the spot that the bass sounds best and move your subwoofer to that location. It can be set on the ground, on a shelf or off of a wall depending on where you feel the best low tone sound is heard. Since the sounds are going out and bouncing nearby the room in practically the same direction, the sound should be great when you get it into place.

We've all heard the laments of mothers and fathers forced to deal with the incessant thumping and pounding of boom box bass lines from their adolescent's car or room. There is something to say for the potential for this phenomenon to occur in a home theater as well. While walls, ceiling and floor will commonly block high sound frequencies from leaving the room, they can easily growth the volume of the lower range sounds. While laying out your speakers, try to also find the right volume equilibrium for all frequencies that your house can enjoy the sound Quality a bass can provide without driving your neighbors crazy.

Why Wireless Speakers Are great Than Wired Speakers

Home Theater Receiver

The only dissimilarity between wireless speakers and regular speakers is the manner in which they receive the sound. Wireless speaker systems instead of using a cable to forward the electronic signals carrying the sound information, the signals are transmitted by means of radio frequency waves. They take radio or infrared electrical signal and transform it into acoustic sound. Despite of the critique, wireless speakers are still very popular amongst consumers and the number of models ready on the store is still growing.

Home Theater Receiver
